Carter Daniel Markham

Born the son of Leroy and Elizabeth West Markham on May 9 1845. During the Civil war, his family took refuge in the Choctaw Nation, and he served in the Cherokee cavalry under Stand Watie. He married Mary Halfacre and Eliza Matthews. Markham was elected judge if Saline District in 1884 but was primarily a business man. He died in 1925. Mayes county historical society. Highlight of Mayes county.   

Henry Clay Ross

Born in the Cherokee Nation on November 2, 1848. The son of Lewis and Margaret Hilderband Ross. Educated in Mission Schools. Cherokee Nation and Nazareth Hall, North Hampton County Pennsylvania. In 1866 he returned to the Cherokee Nation and settled in Saline District. He married Elizabeth Campbell Rupe and Josephine Pettit daughter of Andrew Pettit. Ross died in 1905. David Welch Ragsdale

Born in 1831 and died in 1912. He was elected judge of the Saline District for one term. Ragsdale. Was appointed postmaster at Rose in 1892. He was later elected to a term as Senator from Saline. When he died the Vinita Chieftain called him "one of the pioneer citizens the country.”  He is Buried at Elm Grove Cemetery. See George W. Shirk, "First Post offices within Boundaries of Oklahoma." Edward Sylvester Adair

Son of Andrew & Annie Vann Adair, married Rebecca Baugh. A merchant at Chouteau, he began his career at Saline District as Sheriff in 1889, served a number of years as clerk and served one term as Judge. During the Later years of the century he operated a ferry across the Grand River.  See Mayes County Historical Society.  Historical Highlights of Mayes County.

First term as judge of Saline was District was in 1877-1879. He was re-elected as judge ten years later. He took office between February and May of 1889. He died a few months later at age 75. He is buried in Wickliff Cemetery.
