The court clerk counters shall be closed effective immediately. All filings shall be submitted via email, facsimile, and or United Stated Postal Service. Parties and counsel shall look to the District Rules of Cherokee Nation Rules 1, 2, and 3 for guidance. (Supreme Court Rules 22, 23, and 24)

The regular District Court Friday dockets for March and April are hereby continued as follows:

March 27, 2020 continued to May 22, 2020 at 1:00 PM,

April 3, 2020 continued to May 1, 2020 at 1:00 PM,

April 9, 2020 continued to May 8, 2020 at 1:00 PM,

April 17, 2020 continued to May 15, 2020 at 1:00 PM, and

April 24, 2020 continued to May 22, 2020 at 1:00PM.

The regular District Court Child Support docket for April is hereby continued from April 14, 2020 to May 19, 2020.

SC-AD-20-01 Order Regarding the COVID-19

Chief Justice John C. Garrett

Chief Justice John C. Garrett was born and raised in Stilwell, Ok.  After graduating from Stilwell High School in 1960, he attended the University of Oklahoma earning a bachelor’s degree in business administration in 1965 and then worked in the corporate world for the next five years.

Following his completion of law school at the University of Tulsa in 1973, he worked in private practice for seven years in Muskogee.  Justice Garrett then returned to Stilwell and served as the Associate District Judge for a term of four years after which he resumed private practice in Stilwell until his appointment to the District Judge bench in 1995 where he served until his retirement in 2006.

In May 2012, Chief Baker nominated Justice Garrett to serve on the Supreme Court of the Cherokee Nation.   His appointment was confirmed by the Tribal Council in June 2012.
